Have you ever been homeless? Have you been so close to being homeless you could feel the roof disappearing over your head? Did you wonder where your next meal was coming from? Were you without clothes? Were the utilities cut off in your home? The number is staggering in the United States today of homeless people. There are reports that up to 3.5 million people on a given day in the US qualify as homeless. Tent cities, box bungalows, and blanket bridges are just some of the terms used to describe places where homeless folks live. We can’t all cure homelessness, we can make a difference. Check in your area to see what is happening to help with this and be willing to step in and help make a difference for maybe just one person.

There are more issues of homelessness. There is an eternal home with our God in Heaven. Think of how that number just grows exponentially around the world when they count the ones that don’t know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. How many homeless people exist then? He doesn’t promise us a great trip here on this earth but in Heaven He has many mansions and we are all invited to live in them when we leave this place.

Consider both kinds of homelessness when you see folks today. Do they have some place to go home to tonight? Do you? Do either of you have a home to go to when you leave this world?

Hey I like the new look – I’ve been reading you on my bloglines so long I hadn’t actually seen it.

Family Promise is an amazing organization that helps homeless families get back on their feet. I’ve mentioned our experience with helping out with their interfaith hospitality networks before and it’s a great way to get involved in helping with homeless families. They don’t just feed or temporarily shelter them but help in them in all areas to get back on their feet, keep the kids in school, and help with job training skills and looking for stable employment.

Sorry to sound like a commercial but I’m totally sold on this group! http://familypromise.org/

Thanks for the insight. I’ll have to check them out. This weekend we had a volunteer basis mission field representation to our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the outer most parts of the world. I was redirected by God last week to run the sound for a WMU regional meeting (instead of going home after work and resting) and got to listen to a woman that has been involved with homeless, both aspects, in New York City and now here in Alabama for a long time. I just keep hearing God telling me there was something I could do, so I jumped in the Jerusalem sector for our church. I know there may be a bigger mound than I’m prepared for but little pieces at a time make huge differences. I am excited to see where God takes this.

    Hello Cami.
Thanks so much for stopping in at my blog.
I’m in New York where the homeless situation is frightening.
People stand by the subway turnstiles, and exiting riders who have unlimited Metrocards swipe them in so they can ride the trains all night and stay warm.
I’m looking forward to reading updates about your current mission.
