Holiday Recipe Swap

Posted by cjoshua15 on November 10, 2006

I thought it would be fun to share family favorites or just a fun recipe to try during this holiday season.

Sweet Salad
1 can Eagle Brand milk
1 can sliced pineapple rings
1 container cool whip
1 jar red maraschino cherries
1/2 head of lettuce
24 hours ahead of time, remove the label from the can of milk, place it in large pot of water and boil for 3 hours. Keep can covered with water to keep it from exploding.Refrigerate overnight after boiling.
Next day before dinner.
Open both ends of milk can and using very sharp knife, dip the knife in hot running water and then slice the caramelized milk the thickness of double the pineapple slices. Use a desert plate, lay out lettuce leaf in the middle, place pineapple slice in middle of leaf, and place a slice of the caramelized milk on the pineapple slice, top with cool whip and a cherry.

Clarification, what does boiling the label for three hours accomplish?

okay, so I copied it straight from my grandmothers recipe and none of us has ever boiled the label reading the instructions she left.
