Have you seen the new MAC PC commercial? The jist is MAC's don't get viruses and PCs crash because of so many attacks. It is pretty true and kind of funny. But it got me to thinking about how that compares to the sin in our life. As a Christian we have fire insurance but we are human and we do sin. Does the sin sometimes overwhelm us so much we do a similar type of physical or emotional crash and burn?

Romans 8:13 – "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,…"

So our crash from sin could be a death so to speak. It seems that sometimes the sin becomes so overwhelming that when all is said and done there is an emotional breakdown and the body and soul suffer. Not to mention our relationship with the Lord and our witness.

For those that don't know Christ that crash could be far more critical because they don't know about the nail scarred hand that is so ready and willing to reach in and pull them out of the abyss that the sin in their life has buried them in.

We aren't free from sin because we are human, but we are capable of giving our life to Christ and in Him keep the spread of the sin virus from infiltrating so deeply that it results in a fatal crash.

Definitely! Our sin is like a deadly virus – sin IS death – causing pieces of our heart to die away little by little. Even sometimes when the original “infection” is cleared the effects of the sin have been so far reachign that the left over effects will begin eating away at our heart. That is why it is so crucial, particularly for those deep sin wounds that we let Jesus clean it all out, deal with the surrounding infection, fully clean and fully heal our hearts.

I agree, but what’s sad is that sin is like a cancer. I remember that Karon said one time, “You just can’t trust cancer, it hides.” That is true of sin as well, I think. So many times it’s effects hide until they have grown to “deadly” proportions. I mean, how many people take a first step into a sin and say, “I’m going to take this all the way, as far as it can go until it destroys me.” I would say, not many. But how many people take one step, look around and don’t see any evil effects so they take another, still not a problem, but one day they look around and see that they are ruined! Isn’t there a computer virus that hides until it has destroyed most of your computer? That is sin! It seems that so many times its effects show up all at once! The solution? DON’T TAKE THE FIRST STEP! If you do, realize that just because you can’t see the results doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Stop, ask forgiveness, repent, and go the other way!

    well said Bill!
It’s so much like the prodigal son when he woke up and came to himself – How often do we wake up and come to ourself in the pit of sin and wonder “how in the world did I get so far gone?”
It’s just like we get anywhere else – one step at a time.
